The AMIEU is seeking a motivated and energetic Organiser to service and grow membership in the Central & Northern Districts (Rockhampton to Townsville). The position is preferably based out of Rockhampton. This is a people-focused role suited to someone who is self-driven, adaptable, and passionate about representing workers in the meat industry.

This is not a standard 9–5 position. The role involves: Flexible and irregular hours, including some weekend work, requiring regular travel to metropolitan and regional areas across Queensland and occasional interstate travel (A current driver’s licence is essential).

Key Selection Criteria – To be successful in this role, you will demonstrate:

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
    • The meat industry is highly multicultural. Applicants who speak languages in addition to English are strongly encouraged to apply
  • A sound working knowledge of the meat industry
  • The ability to interpret and apply Enterprise Agreements
  • Experience identifying and resolving workplace issues and disputes
  • The ability to work independently while contributing positively to a team environment
  • A strong commitment to union values and social justice
  • Sound computer skills, including Microsoft Office
  • The ability to write newsletters and articles for members
