At one shed a member needed to take some extra time to care for his partner after she had had a particularly hard time giving birth to twins. He put in for a mixture of annual leave, carers leave and parental leave. The company told him that they would not grant him the carers leave because they decided that having a baby did not entitle him to apply for carers leave. Once the AMIEU got involved, it took no time for the company to realise that they don’t get to make those kind of decisions and the member was able to enjoy 6 weeks at home with his new family.
