Recently one of our members was stood down indefinitely by a Company’s “Soft Tissue Practitioner” even after he had obtained a full clearance from his own doctor. The Union applied to FWC for a decision. The Commissioner ordered an independent opinion from a specialist. Our member attended and was given a full clearance backdated to his original doctor’s clearance. He was reinstated and back paid to his original clearance. This was a good outcome and highlights the importance of being a member of the AMIEU.
