Coles has announced it’s slashing meat
departments and making butchers and meat
packers redundant from October 2021.

Customers will no longer be able to speak with their
local Coles butcher for expert advice on cuts of meat
for their needs, recipes and best handling practices.
Customers will also no longer be able to purchase
fresh meat cut in-store – instead meat products will
now be delivered to Coles, pre-packaged and often
trucked from halfway across the country.
Butchers and meat packers with decades of loyal
service will be made redundant. Many will be offered
redeployment in similar jobs but worse wages and
